The Premier League have once again let Liverpool down after West Ham’s controversial move
As Liverpool prepare for their Champions League semi-final second leg at Villarreal on Tuesday night, they know that if they are to reach their 10th European Cup final it will be without help from the Premier League, writes Theo Squires.
The Reds emerged unscathed from last week as their effort for an unprecedented quadruple continues, beating the La Liga side 2-0 at Anfield last Wednesday night before beating Newcastle United 1-0 at kick-off Saturday at noon.
However, as their trip to St. James’ Park fell just two and a half days after the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, they had asked the Premier League to postpone their trip to Tyneside.
The Premier League belatedly rejected Liverpool’s request, with confirmation the game would go ahead as planned a week after public criticism from Klopp.
As a result, the German made five changes to his squad which faced Newcastle, and is set to rotate against Villarreal again on Tuesday night.
