Can I enter Spain?

Currently, Spain is open to travellers. However, please note that some travel restrictions are in place.

Can I enter Spain if I am vaccinated?

You can enter Spain if you are vaccinated. You must have completed a full vaccination course at least 14 days before arriving in Spain.

The Spanish government has announced that any vaccine authorized for marketing by the EU (by the European Medicines Agency, EMA) and WHO is accepted. Here is the list of vaccines accepted in Spain as of November 11, 2021:

  • Community – Pfizer / BioNTech
  • Vaxzevria – AstraZeneca
  • AstraZeneca / SK Bio, SK Bioscience
  • Covishield – Serum Institute of India
  • Janssen-Johnson and Johnson
  • Spikevax – Modern
  • SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine – Sinopharm / Beijing Biological Products Institute
  • CoronaVac – Sinovac Life Sciences
  • Covaxin – Bharat Biotech

Travel documents if you are fully vaccinated

If you are fully vaccinated, you must show your vaccination certificate. The following formats are accepted:

  • The EU digital COVID certificate issued by the European Commission (a mobile app for EU travellers)
  • A printed paper certificate

If you have a paper certificate, it must be in Spanish, English, French or German and contain the following data:

  • Name and nickname
  • Personal identification number
  • Name of vaccine administered
  • Country/city where the vaccine was administered
  • Vaccination date(s)

Moreover, whether they are vaccinated or not, all travelers must complete a health screening form (FCS form) and sign it electronically at least four hours before the scheduled departure date.

You must provide the following information:

  • First name Last Name
  • Passport number, identity card or personal identification
  • Flight number and arrival date

Once the form has been processed, you will receive an email with a QR code to present at checkpoints upon arrival in Spain. Print or save the code on a smartphone or tablet.

Can I enter Spain if I am not vaccinated?

You can enter Spain if you are not vaccinated, provided you present a negative COVID-19 test result or proof that you have recovered from the disease.

Travel documents if you are not vaccinated

If you are not vaccinated, present one of the following documents:

  • A negative COVID-19 antigen test (no more than 48 hours before) or a NAAT test (no more than 72 hours before). It must be in English, French, German, Spanish or accompanied by a certified Spanish translation.
  • A COVID-19 Recovery Certificate (this is valid from a minimum of 11 days after passing the first positive NAAT test to a maximum of six months after that date)

Also, whether vaccinated or not, all travelers must complete a health screening form (FCS form) and sign it electronically at least four hours before the scheduled departure date.

To do this, you will need to provide the following information:

If you are not vaccinated and you arrive in Spain from “dark red”, “red”, “orange” and “grey” countries

Spain has a list of “dark red”, “red”, “orange” and “grey” countries, however, travelers can still enter the country. Under Spain’s COVID-19 restrictions, they must meet the current entry requirements outlined above.

If you are traveling from Spain, you must have one of the following documents:

  • EU digital COVID certificate (this is only approved within the EU)
  • A printed paper certificate (it is your responsibility to obtain information about the required language of the certificate and other details needed for your destination)

Also, make sure you know the requirements for COVID-19 testing for vaccinated travelers, as some countries require testing anyway (the United States, for example).

Traveling to “dark red”, “red”, “orange” and “grey” countries if you are not vaccinated

Many countries are considered at risk in Spain. However, no one can prevent you from leaving Spain and going there. The Ministry of Health is advising people to refrain from non-essential travel to these countries.

Depending on the destination, unvaccinated travelers must carry one of the following documents:

  • Viral test (the relevant period depends on the individual destination)
  • COVID-19 recovery documentation (a positive viral test result on a sample taken no more than 90 days prior to flight departure to a foreign country)

Is it safe to travel to Spain right now?

Currently, Spain is considered the safest country to visit in Europe. The Ministry of Health is still asking locals and travelers to follow covid-related travel rules:

  • Use a face mask in public places
  • Maintain a physical distance of 1.5 meters
  • Gather no more than five people around you at indoor and outdoor gatherings

Is Barcelona open to travel?

Barcelona is now open to tourists. All major attractions, shops and restaurants are open to the public. Traveling to Barcelona is a good idea to have your vaccination certificate or negative test with you because not all places allow entry without it.

Do I have to be quarantined if I go to Spain?

Currently, you do not have to self-quarantine upon arrival in Spain due to the advantageous situation of COVID-19.

How do I get a health pass to travel to Spain?

When arriving in Spain from the EU, it is a good idea to obtain an EU Covid digital certificate. The certificate is free and is issued in digital or paper format in the national language of the country and in English. However, only EU citizens can get it. If you are from outside the EU, keep a paper certificate with you.
