Girona beat Eibar in extra time in the Spanish league promotion play-off semi-final on Sunday, setting up a final against Tenerife for the last remaining First Division spot next season.
Borja Garcia scored in the first minute of the game and Cristhian Stuani added the lead early in extra time to give the visitors a 2-0 win and a 2-1 aggregate win.
Basque country club Eibar won 1-0 in the first leg in Girona. It had taken a win for bottom-placed Alcorcón on the final day of the regular season to secure an automatic place in the top flight, but they lost 1-0. He played seven consecutive years in the first division before being relegated last season.

Valladolid, the club owned by former Brazil striker Ronaldo, secured the automatic promotion spot thanks to Eibar’s last-round loss. Almería were also promoted after finishing top of the Second Division table.
Girona have been in the second tier for 12 of the last 14 seasons, with back-to-back appearances in the top flight from 2017-19.

Tenerife, who are trying to return to the top flight for the first time since 2009-10, qualified for the playoff final by beating Canary rivals Las Palmas 3-1 on aggregate after a 2-1 win at the outside Saturday. He won 1-0 in the first leg at home. Las Palmas were trying to return to the main level for the first time since 2017-18.
The home-and-away final kicks off next weekend, with the first match hosted by Girona in Catalonia and the second by Tenerife in the Canary Islands.
Granada, Levante and Alavés have been relegated from the first division this season.
